LIEU: THE FIRST STEP TO HEAL AND UNIFY IS ACCOUNTABILITY

Co-Chair Lieu Appeared on CNN, MSNBC, and CBS to Say the Nation’s Path to Unity is through Justice and Accountability

(Washington, DC)   Congressman Ted Lieu (CA-33), Co-Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), appeared on CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell, The Lead with Jake Tapper and The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer on CNN, and MSNBC Live with Chris Jansing and The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC Monday and Tuesday. Congressmen Lieu made clear that in the wake of this national emergency we must hold the President accountable so the Nation can heal.

“At the end of the day this is really a question about what to do when our Nation’s Capital was attacked. And Donald Trump incited a violent mob to attack our Capitol to prevent Congress from accepting the certified electoral college results, and multiple people died. And we need to respond to that in a strong and swift manner,” said Lieu on the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.

“The best way to heal – unify – our Nation is to hold accountable those who attacked our Capitol and those who incited that attack. That begins at the very top starting with Donald Trump,” said Lieu on CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell.

“We cannot pretend January 6th didn’t happen. This was an attempted overthrow of Congress. The best way for the Biden Presidency to start is to acknowledge what happened and hold everyone accountable, including Donald Trump. We cannot simply let this go because we can never heal as Nation if we don’t have justice first,” said Lieu on MSBC Live with Chris Jansing.

Donald Trump incited a mob that attacked the Capitol. The only way we can unify our country is to hold all those accountable who engaged in this attack, including the man who incited it: Donald Trump,” said Lieu on The Lead with Jake Tapper.

“Let’s be clear of what happened. Donald Trump called his supporters to show up on January 6th, because that’s when Congress was going to formalize his loss and Joe Biden’s win. He told his supporters it would be wild. He then gave a speech telling them that the election was stolen. He told them to: stop the steal, march down Pennsylvania Avenue, go to the Capitol and to fight like hell - and they listened. As a result, an armed mob invaded the Capitol, attacked the Capitol, and multiple people died. And the person responsible for inciting this insurrection is Donald Trump.  That’s why we need to remove him from office as soon as possible,” said Lieu on The Rachel Maddow Show.
