WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Chairman David Cicilline (RI-01) and Co-Chairs Matt Cartwright (PA-08), Debbie Dingell (MI-12) and Ted Lieu (CA-33) released the following statement today after a lawsuit supported by President Trump and Republicans resulted in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals upholding a previous district court decision that struck down part of the Affordable Care Act. The 5th Circuit sent the case back down to a lower court to decide how much of the law can remain intact. The Affordable Care Act remains law while the lower court reaches a decision. But President Trump and Republicans' reckless lawsuit puts healthcare in jeopardy for millions of Americans. Meanwhile, House Democrats have fought to protect healthcare For The People by helping pass legislation to protect people with pre-existing conditions, reverse healthcare sabotage & lower drug costs.
"This lawsuit puts healthcare in jeopardy for millions of Americans. While President Trump and Republicans continue trying to take healthcare away, House Democrats are fighting to expand healthcare and lower costs for patients. The House has passed legislation to protect people with pre-existing conditions, reverse healthcare sabotage & lower drug costs. We call on Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans to take up those bills and act to protect the healthcare of hard-working people," said the DPCC CoChairs.
