DPCC CO-CHAIRS APPLAUD AS BIDEN TAKES IMMEDIATE ACTION TO PROVIDE RELIEF FOR AMERICAN FAMILIES

DPCC Co-Chairs Welcome Day-One Executive Actions by Biden-Harris Administration to
Address COVID-19 Pandemic, Provide Economic Relief, Tackle Climate Change, Advance Racial Equity, More

(Washington, DC) – Today House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Co-Chairs Matt Cartwright (PA-08), Debbie Dingell (MI-12), Ted Lieu (CA-33) and Joe Neguse (CO-02) applauded President Joe Biden for taking immediate action to provide relief for American families by signing executive orders to address COVID-19 pandemic, provide economic relief, tackle climate change, advance racial equity and more.

“President Biden knew he would have to tackle major public health, economic and environmental crises when he took office, and he is hitting the ground running on Day One. He has taken important initial steps to coordinate a national COVID-19 response, help struggling families and create good jobs by addressing climate change. In the House, we are ready to build on these actions and move our nation forward,” said Cartwright.

“Today, President Biden revoked the Muslim Ban to make this nation stronger and safer. By rejecting fear and bigotry, he recognized that this discriminatory policy didn’t just cause pain for Muslims around the world, it hurt our fellow citizens. Lifting this ban as one of his first acts in office clearly demonstrates President Biden’s commitment to uniting this nation and his ability to see the humanity and dignity in all Americans. The former President’s ban destroyed lives, caused untold damage to the security of the United States, and didn’t protect Americans from terrorist attacks. Now, we must work to restore the faith, credibility and trust of the international communities targeted by the previous Administration and this is a significant first step,” said Dingell.

"President Biden's first actions demonstrate his desire to undo some of the most harmful policies of the previous administration. Chiefly, I'm thrilled they're setting the tone by taking action to provide needed relief for Americans reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic is currently our most pressing threat, but taking measures to combat climate change, reverse the Muslim ban and advance racial equity programs are vital moves for this new Administration. These sweeping actions show that President Biden is ready to lead, and I'm looking forward to Congress's role in helping advance our shared goals,” said Lieu.

A new era for climate action is here. As one of his first acts, President Biden has chosen to take action to combat the climate crisis and reassure our global allies of America’s leadership role by rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement. In Colorado, we have experienced the impacts of climate change tangibly through devastating wildfires, increased flooding and climate-related weather events. Our communities are ready for bold leadership and bold action to tackle the existential threat of climate change. In President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, we once again have leaders in the White House who will trust the scientists, and will work to invest in clean energy jobs, and climate solutions,” said Neguse.
