DPCC Co-Chair Lieu on Democrats' Stunning Success in the First 100 Days

April 12, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Ted Lieu, Co-Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), appeared on CNN Right Now With Brianna Keilar to discuss the first 100 days of the Democratic Majority. During the first 100 days of this Congress, Democrats have introduced, held hearings, marked up or passed most of the For The People agenda: lowering health care costs, raising wages by rebuilding America, and cleaning up corruption in Washington. Below are excerpts from the interview. Click here to watch the video.

"We have over 235 amazing Members of the Democratic Caucus. We represent different districts, and we're going to have different priorities. But at the end of the day as we work through different issues, we always come together, and we've had a stunning success in the first 100 days passing the universal background checks on guns, passing the Violence Against Women Act as well as engaging in hearings on reducing health care costs. So it's going to take some time, but, at the end of the day, we're passing legislation, on a majority basis, to move America forward."

"So the way our entire government is set up, it's not set up to be efficient. It's set up to have a lot of voices to be heard, to have a lot of discussions, and at the end of the day we want to move forward and the Democratic Caucus, our strength is our unity. As you saw in the government shutdown, we were unified and as you've seen in the major votes coming off the House floor, they have been very unified votes so at the end of the day we are passing legislation For the People that's moving the American family forward."
