DPCC Co-Chair Lieu: Democrats Won’t Stop Fighting For Health Care

May 22, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Ted Lieu, Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), appeared on Live With Katy Tur on MSNBC to discuss how Democrats are balancing oversight responsibilities with our For the People agenda. Congressman Lieu emphasized that Democrats continue to fight for lower health care costs, stronger infrastructure, and against corruption in Washington. Below are excerpts from the interview. "Just this month Democrats passed legislation to reduce prescription drug prices and also protect health care coverage for people with pre-existing conditions. So we are moving forward with respect to health care. I think we can do both at once. We can advance legislation to help the American people as well conduct oversight into investigations, and I think we need to do both, because that's what the constitution tells us to do."

"We've been trying very hard to talk about health care. MSNBC could talk about that some more, that would be great. But it is a challenge, because it's true that this President has engaged in a lot of behavior and conduct that look just like crimes."

"The Trump administration is doing something completely unprecedented, they are stonewalling and hiding from the American people everything Congress is asking for. And that is simply unconstitutional. The framers set up three branches of government as checks and balances, and we're going to enforce our subpoena, and we're going to hold Don McGahn in contempt, we're going to go to court, we're going to litigate it and we're going to win."
