"Well, if we're going to move forward and deal with health care, the foundation is we have to keep the many parts of the Affordable Care Act that are working incredibly well for the American people and to the extent there are adjustments necessary to strengthen it, we have always been willing to reach out and work together in a bipartisan way to do that."
"The problem is at the beginning of this year President Trump and the Republicans came into Congress with the intention of fulfilling a political promise which is to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act and to put in its stead Trumpcare, which would have thrown off 24 million Americans from their health insurance and posed a draconian age tax on Americans between 50 and 64 and stripped away protections for pre-existing conditions. But they weren't able to do it, so if that's going to be Trumpcare 2.0 or 3.0, then I don't think there will be a lot of democratic support.
"But if there's a good faith effort to improve the health care that Americans get and rely upon moving forward, that's something Democrats and Republicans should come together regardless of partisan politics to accomplish."
