WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, Co-Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), appeared on Mornings with Maria on FOX Business to discuss foreign trade policy and national security issues concerning China. Co-Chair Dingell emphasized that Democrats are working to protect the people from trade war repercussions while also fighting to lower health care costs, rebuild America's infrastructure and take on corruption in Washington. Below are excerpts from the interview. Click here to watch the video

"I think this is really complicated. We have only started to talk about what the impact is going to be for the American consumer in the last few days, but the fact of the matter is we have real national security issues here and we have to figure out how we are going to navigate this. Businesses need to have a consistency, which we've not had in trade policy, but China has been doing things that are unacceptable. We focused on Russia doing the hacks, but China has been responsible for many of the hacks to collect data, they are using it to hear information, we ought to have a tough trade negotiator. It's complicated, it's totally complicated, is what it is. It is concerning and we do need to pay attention to that but China thinks they have upper hand, and we can't let China have the upper hand."

"I think Deb talked about that they are using to gather intelligence, especially the latest. But you know, they are collecting data on us that can be used in different ways. It is not an accident some things are being hacked into. So I think it's important. What we really need is, there's two different issues here, there is a national security issue and I think the latest actions related to national security as much as it is to anything. But we don't want to see an increase in consumer good costs. We need a level playing field. China has consistently underwritten the costs of the goods that they are selling into this market. Our workers need a level playing field."
