DPCC Co-Chair Debbie Dingell: We Need To Reopen the Government

January 8, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, Co-Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), appeared on Outnumbered Overtime With Harris Faulkner on FOX News to discuss the government shutdown and its impact on working Americans across the country. Below are excerpts from the interview. Clickhere to watch the video

"To say that Nancy Pelosi isn't cutting a deal because the left Members of her Caucus is flat out not true...I want to see us bring this, we've got to reopen the government. The public servants we have put in the middle are not the Republicans or Democrats. they are people who care about this country. They are the customs and border patrol workers. They are the TSA. I talked to my U.S. Attorney who got approved this week, and his workers are scared to death about how they're going to pay their mortgage. What was wrong with the bill that was passed last night?"

"It would have extended -- it would have funded the other six departments until the end of this fiscal year. It would have put us into a process that put us in a room and said ‘how will we keep our borders safe?' and that's what we need to do. This finger-pointing – these talking points are getting us nowhere. Let's reopen the government, let's put a deadline, and then let's figure out how we are going to keep those borders safe -which isn't just a wall, it's increased customs and border patrol. It's drones. It's biometrics."

"I don't think that compromise is a dirty word, by the way. A lot of good pieces of legislation have come that way. We need to get in a room."
