DPCC Co-Chair Cicilline: Democrats Are Fighting For the People of This Country

August 22, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Cicilline, Co-Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), appeared on Outnumbered Overtime With Harris Faulkner on Fox News to discuss how Democrats are fighting for the people. Democrats have a plan to drive down the cost of health care, increase pay by rebuilding America and clean upcorruption in Washington. Below are excerpts of the interview. "I think this midterm election will be about one question: who is fighting for the people of this country and who is fighting for the powerful special interests? Democrats are going to make the case that we have a plan to drive down the cost of healthcare and to drive down the cost of prescription drugs. Republicans are trying to repeal the affordable care act [and] are doing nothing about the cost of prescription drugs. And they are in court right now trying to take away coverage for preexisting conditions.

"We have a plan to create 16 million jobs [by] rebuilding the infrastructure in our country in a significant way and to continue to promote economic growth. The President had a fake plan that relied on these public private partnerships that would not do nearly as much.

"Thirdly Democrats are running on a commitment to drain the swamp - to end the pervasive corruption in Washington that has made government work for the special interests and not for them. That's what the campaign will be about…it will be about who is fighting for the American people?

"Look at what [the President] does - not what he says. This is the most corrupt Administration in our history. You go down the cabinet members from Pruitt to Price and on and on.

"Let me finish. The American people, they want an economy that doesn't just work for people at the very top but that works for everyone. The Bureau of Labor Statistics just came out with a report last Friday wages have declined.

"I'm happy to talk about the Manafort verdict. I think the idea that it has nothing to do with the Russia investigation is wishful thinking. This is a case that demonstrated that Paul Manafort received tens of millions of dollars from Russian oligarchs. That he was in their debt and that he then volunteered to be Chairman of the President's campaign. And then he had communications with his assistant and said ‘how do I use this new position to help square my debt with the Russians?' So we don't know that this is nothing to do with Russian collusion.

"That's wishful thinking. What we need to do is make sure that Mr. Mueller can complete his investigation. To find the facts where they lead. We have legislation to protect him - because the President is interfering. [He] is trying to undermine the investigation, trying to interfere with it. We need to make sure whether you are Republican or Democrat, that Americans deserve to know the truth.

"The President fired the FBI Director – which he did because of the Russian investigation. Michael Cohen stood in open court under oath and acknowledged that the President of the United States directed him to commit a crime."
