Bustos Voices Concerns on the Limited Scope of the FBI’s Investigation into Sexual Assault Allegations Against Judge Kavanaugh

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, Co-Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), appeared on Outnumbered on FOX News with Harris Faulkner to discuss the FBI's investigation into the allegations of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Judge Kavanaugh. As a former investigative reporter, Bustos explained that there were only a handful of witnesses interviewed – and that the truth would only be found with a thorough investigation. Below are excerpts from the interview. Click here to watch the video.

"You know we have to think about what is our guiding light on anything, whether it's a confirmation process for Supreme Court Justice, whether it's a hearing that involves any kind of wrongdoing or alleged wrongdoing that we are trying to get to the bottom of. It's got to be the truth. Not only am I a Midwesterner, and glad to hear you got those Midwestern roots, Harris, but I'm also married to a sheriff. He spent his career, 34 years in law enforcement, making sure that he did everything he could and the people he leads do everything they can to get to the truth. And, Harris, whether you have a "D" by your name or an "R" by your name, if that is our guiding light we'll end up in a good place – but it seems like that was put to the side in this whole process"

"I think there were steps taken to get there on the surface but you talk to anybody in law enforcement, whether it's the FBI, whether it's your local sheriff, whether it's a small town police department, you interview people who have been put out there as witnesses. There are reports that are out in the public domain, there are dozens of peoples' names that have been out there – who are reported to have known something about this. Whether it's Professor Blasey For allegations, whether it's the Swetnick allegations, whether it's the Ramirez allegations. There are dozens of people who were left out in this whole process. To me, that does not shout out, as this is a thorough investigation and this is an attempt to get to the ultimate truth. And Harris to your point, these allegations going back a little ways, I've got two words for you and that's Bill Cosby. Look he was convicted out of a case that dated back to 2004. Other allegations went back decades and so if there is an attempt to get to the truth, the truth can be found and I think that was lacking in this case."

"Well here would be the questions I have about that. First of all it's an ex-boyfriend, you probably know this, I know this. I think maybe sometimes ex-boyfriends have an ax to grind. Just maybe, let's throw that out there. I would question that as an investigative reporter. Number two, his name is not attached to this report. It's been marked out. We've got this confidential person labeled as an ex-boyfriend who is making these allegations which seem to be pretty salacious, as opposed to three women on the record who have literally put their lives on the line to go out there. And it must be noted that Professor Blasey Ford has asked for an FBI investigation."

"Well I would not call it an investigation, I would call it nine interviews. As opposed to what is likely to be the next Supreme Court Justice who refused to participate in an FBI investigation. There is a clear contrast for me and that's what I'd want to dig down and get a few more answers on."
