DPCC Chair Cicilline: Democrats are Fighting for the Issues that Matter Most to the American People

April 25, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Cicilline, Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), appeared on Outnumbered Overtime on FOX News to discuss how Democrats are conducting oversight of the Trump Administration while continuing to address the issues that matter most to the American people. Congressman Cicilline emphasized that Democrats are delivering on the For the People agenda by working to drive down the cost of prescription drugs, raise family incomes by rebuilding the country, and taking on corruption in Washington. Below are excerpts from the interview. Click here to watch the video

"We have the responsibility to do two things, Democrats have to deliver on the agenda that we ran on, driving down the cost of prescription drugs, preserving protection for pre-existing conditions, raising family incomes by rebuilding the country, a bold infrastructure plan, and taking on the corruption in Washington. We will continue, we have done the work, we have already passed H.R.1, we passed legislation to reduce the cost of prescription drugs, we are working on an infrastructure plan, we passed equal pay for equal work, we are doing our work addressing the economic issues that face the American people. At the same time we have to do oversight. I know that that is uncomfortable, but Congress has a responsibility, whatever party, the legislative branch has a responsibility. I know that there are some Trump supporters that think any oversight is unfair, but we have a long tradition of doing oversight of the executive branch, it is part of the responsibility."

"I think that we have a lot more information to gather, but we need to do it in a judicious way, we have a process, and we need to do it in a fair way, but we can do both things, move forward on the economic issues is the priority to improve the lives of the American people, and we can hold this administration accountable and do our work."
