DPCC Chair Cicilline: Democrats Are Delivering On the Issues that Matter to Americans
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman David Cicilline, Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), appeared on Morning Joe on MSNBC to reaffirm Democrats' commitment to Congressional oversight while also fighting For The People to lower health care costs, rebuild America's infrastructure, and take on corruption in Washington. Below are excerpts from the interview. Click here to watch the video.
"We have to do two things. We have to continue to deliver on the important priorities of the American people. We've passed 250 pieces of legislation, including ten health care bills to drive down prescription drug costs, to protect coverage for preexisting conditions, we've passed equal pay for equal work, universal background checks, childcare assistance for veterans, a tax relief for Gold Star families, so we're getting the work done. The Grim Reaper, as he calls himself, the Senate Majority Leader, has said that he's not going to take up any of these bills, but we need to continue to focus on the issues that matter to the American people and deliver on those, and get the government working for them again. In addition to that, we need to hold this administration accountable."
"I think one of the reasons lots of people don't talk about it is they expect us just to do their job. We took an oath, this is part of our responsibility. They don't want to hear about the day-to-day oversight responsibilities, but they expect us to do it. They want us to do both things. Deliver on the issues that matter in their lives, hold this administration accountable, make sure that the President understands no one in America, including him, is above the law, follow the facts, get to the truth and take the appropriate action."
