DPCC Chair Cicilline and DPCC Co-Chair Lieu: The Mueller Investigation was Done on Behalf of the American People, They're Entitled to See the Full Results
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Policy & Communications Committee (DPCC) Chair David Cicilline and DPCC Co-Chair Ted Lieu, both Members of the House Judiciary Committee, appeared on The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC to discuss Attorney General Barr's redacted version of Special Counsel Mueller's report. Chair Cicilline reiterated that the House Judiciary Committee has the right to see a fully unredacted report because this investigation was done for the American people and no one is above the law. Co-Chair Lieu highlighted that Barr's job is to serve the public, not protect the President. Below are excerpts from the interview. Click here to watch the video
DPCC Co-Chair Lieu: "Bill Barr took one oath, that was not to Donald Trump. It was to the U.S. Constitution. He is not the PR Firm for Donald Trump. His job is to serve the public and to have his Justice Department coordinate with the White House and to give them a heads-up about this report so they can write a counter report is exactly the wrong thing to do. It's why we have a Special Counsel statute regulation in the first place to avoid coordination between the President's political appointee and the White House. Bill Barr should cancel tomorrow's presser and he needs to really be serving the public instead of serving Donald Trump in this contemptible way."
DPCC Chair Cicilline: "It's important to remember, this is not about some personal indiscretion of the President. This investigation began because our democracy was attacked by a foreign adversary. This investigation was done on behalf of the American people. They paid for this investigation. They're entitled to see the results, and we have a responsibility to make sure that nobody is above the law, and that we follow the truth, follow facts wherever they lead us. We can do it objectively. We take this responsibility seriously but we have to have the information necessary to do our job."
