WASHINGTON, DC – Today Rep. David Cicilline, Co-Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, issued the following blog post on the unveiling of A Better Deal: Tools to Succeed in the 21st Century.

For more than a year now, Republicans have had control of Congress and the White House. And for more than a year, they've been giving working people in this country a raw deal.

On every issue, from health care to taxes to infrastructure, their raw deal is making the wealthy and well-connected even stronger.

And at a time when our workers are already facing stiff competition for the jobs and industries of our time and the future – the Republicans' raw deal is making working people sacrifice even more.

Democrats don't want working people struggling to get by, we want them to get ahead and ensure their hard work is honored with a good paycheck.

That's why Democrats are offering a better deal. Today, I joined with my colleagues in the House and Senate to unveil A Better Deal: Tools to Succeed in the 21st Century – a strong comprehensive proposal that will secure America's long-term economic leadership and ensure that the benefits of our progress are shared by all.

A Better Deal: Tools to Succeed in the 21st Century is made up of three steps.

First, we will invest in America's workers by strengthening education, increasing apprenticeships, guaranteeing workplace benefits, and fixing our broken immigration system.

Second, we will pioneer future frontiers and break ground on new science and technological advances that will power our economy and maintain our competitive edge.

Lastly, we will modernize our government systems by updating antiquated computer systems so it's more secure against cyber-attacks and more capable of delivering results for the people it serves.

By forging this new path forward, we will power our economy today and long into the future. We will maintain America's competitive edge. And we will renew our commitment to out-innovating, out-educating and out-building the rest of the world.
